Important: If you are using a microSD card in your console, do not remove it until you have confirmed all downloads have completed.
Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Switch console
- An Internet connection
What to do
- Check that your console has the latest system update.

- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

- Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options.

- Try to redownload the software. If the issue persists, continue with the next steps until the issue is resolved.
- Power off the console, then remove the microSD card.

- Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options.
- Select Turn Off.

- With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover.
- Gently push down on the top of the microSD card until you hear a click, then slide it out of the microSD card slot.

- With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:

- Make sure the microSD card you are using is compatible with Nintendo Switch. The following microSD cards are supported:
- microSD (up to 2GB)
- microSDHC (4GB – 32GB)
- microSDXC (64GB – 2TB)
Important: If there is more than a 1GB difference between what is listed on the microSD card’s label or packaging and the total microSD card capacity listed in the system, contact the retailer for assistance.
- Reinsert the microSD card and try redownloading the software.

- Power off the Nintendo Switch console, then gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Position the microSD card properly with the label facing away from the console.
- Insert the microSD card into the slot and gently push down until it clicks into place.

- Power off the console again, then replace the microSD card with a different compatible microSD card. Try downloading to the new card.
- If your download works, there may be an issue with your original microSD card. You may need to format or replace your original microSD card.

Important
- Once formatted, the information on the microSD card cannot be recovered. If screenshots or videos are stored on the microSD card, be sure to first back up the information on a computer.
- If downloadable software was saved to the microSD card, it can be redownloaded using the same Nintendo Account it was purchased with.
- Save data is stored on the console’s system memory, so it will not be lost in this process.
- From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
- Scroll down the options on the left and select System.
- Scroll down the options on the right-hand side and select Formatting Options.
- If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN.
- Select Format microSD Card, then Continue.
- The following message will be displayed, “All data on the microSD card will be deleted. Data cannot be restored once it is deleted. Continue?”
- To continue, select Format. The console will then restart.

- Remove the microSD card, then download the software to the system memory.
- If the download works, there is likely an issue with the microSD card. It may need to be replaced with a new microSD card.
Situation not resolved
If the error persists with multiple compatible microSD cards, when downloading to the system memory, or if a different supported microSD card is not available to test, the console will need to be repaired. Be sure to include one or two of the problematic cards with the repair.

To improve your gameplay experience, using a microSD card with a higher transfer speed is recommended. We suggest looking for the following specifications:
- UHS-I (Ultra-High Speed Phase I) compatible
- Transfer speed 60 – 95MB/sec
- The higher the transfer speed, the better the gameplay experience on Nintendo Switch.
